Is it right to use artificial intelligence in aviation security?

HEXWAVE is an AI-enhanced weapon detection technology that will soon be tested in aviation. According to Andrew Tunnicliffe in is story published in March 2020 with the above title, Pearson International Airport (Torono, Canada) will be be one of the “test sites for Liberty Defense’s system, which uses 3D radar imaging to detect and identify weapons”. The goal is to identifying threats before they reach the airport terminal.

Although terrorist attacks are still a threat, the corona virus pandemic has shown that a virus is much more efficient and dangerous in causing dead and chaos all over the world. So, the question is, what tools do we have to monitor, assess the probability of an epidemic or, worse, a pandemic, to affect a region, country or continent and propose defense measures? The world has invested a lot of money in the research and implementation of defense systems and weapons to avoid a war and terrorist attacks. Apparently, nothing or much, much less, in systems to defend us from virus attacks. Artificial Intelligence has a huge potential to be used in this scenario. Let’s hope that we have learn something from this crisis and start to invest money in this area too.
